They allow for you to make connections with not only students and professors, but also companies that are looking for up-and-coming talent. Mallory Tranmer (DCMS president): introduced the DCMS Club ‘as a whole’ and explained the purpose of the club. She discussed the opening social that is happening on 9/23/23. Sister Tranmer talked about upcoming info sessions and upcoming events that students may attend. Her advice to us was to embrace the resources that BYUI provides, this includes the importance of the on-campus mentoring. The professors and leaders are truly here to help the students. Their experiences and connections allow students to have someone to talk to about how best to succeed of if we are feeling overwhelmed. Brother Heward: He discussed the ASC competition and explained the importance of ‘putting yourself out there’. He discussed how many people learn so much and how it relates to going on a mission and how it changes you for the better. Brother Heward stressed the importance of personal growth. He talked about the importance of finding and managing your time. BYU-I sets up their programs in a way to make it very easy for students to have time to attend info sessions and clubs. Down to setting aside time in every professor’s schedule to allow students to attend devotionals and clubs is yet another tool they give us students to succeed. Brother Allen: He began by discussing the NAHB club and the links to sign up. I learned that NAHB is if we want to go more on the residential route of career. His description of this club was, “they act like a builder group and simulate the process of the build”. Academic Advisor: An academic advisor presented and once again told us about resources. He talked about the grad planner, resources, program availability, etc. |
